Restore Your Smile and Your Biting Power

The loss of many or all of a person’s teeth can lead to a host of oral and overall health issues like chewing problems, gum injuries, jawbone atrophy, indigestion, malnutrition, and low self-esteem. Here’s a quick look at why implant dentures are so effective and how the friendly team at South Jersey Center for Dental Medicine can help you find the best way to replace your lost teeth.

What Are Implant Dentures?

Dental implants are titanium posts designed to be surgically inserted into the jawbone where they fuse with their surrounding bone tissue through the natural process of osseointegration. This allows them to enjoy the sturdy hold they need for restorations mounted upon them to exert maximum force during the chewing process, and implants can last for decades or possibly for life if they receive excellent care. Dentures supported by dental implants also securely remain in place, which prevents them from sliding about on the gums and causing soft tissue irritation and oral sores. However, implant dentures are not for everyone, and Dr. Vidya will be happy to recommend a suitable tooth replacement for you after a brief examination during your consultation at our office in Marlton. Based on her findings, she may recommend:
Fixed/Permanent Implant Dentures

Fixed implant dentures are designed to remain securely fastened to four to six dental implants at all times. These devices behave almost exactly like real teeth and require the same oral hygiene measures, but they require the patient to have adequate jawbone density to be placed.
Removable Implant Dentures

Sometimes called “snap-on dentures,” these devices are designed to be detached from the dental implants for hygiene purposes. They usually only require two to five implants, so they can be a great option for those with low jawbone density.
The Implant Denture Process

At South Jersey Center for Dental Medicine, we partner with Dr. Sanberg, a trusted local implant specialist who will be happy to place your implants while ensuring your comfort throughout the procedure. The first part of the process of receiving dental implants is to have a consultation at our office in Marlton so Dr. Vidya can determine the best way to restore your smile. If implant dentures are right for you, we’ll be happy to schedule you to receive them at Dr. Sanberg’s office as well as for any necessary preliminary treatments such as gum disease treatment. After you receive your implants, you’ll be scheduled to receive abutment pieces several months later. A few weeks after that, you’ll return to our office so we can fix your gorgeous new dentures in place within your mouth.
Am I a Candidate for Implant Dentures?

Most adults who have lost teeth but are in otherwise good oral health can be excellent candidates for dental implants, and implant dentures can be particularly excellent for those who are frustrated with the limitations of traditional dentures. You’ll need to be free from oral infections and healthy enough to receive minor surgery, and we’ll be happy to address any oral health issues that may preclude you from implants at our office. If you need bone grafts, we can refer you to a trusted specialist.
